Inorganic Chemistry 2

Course Objectives:
This course is a systematic presentation of theoretical aspects of Inorganic Chemistry as applied to transition metal chemistry as well as the stereochemistry, kinetics, thermodynamics and spectroscopy of coordination compounds and their reactions.

Course Description:

This course covers the following: Molecular symmetry and point groups, transition metal chemistry, concept of donors and acceptors, types of ligands, coordination numbers 2-8, IUPAC nomenclature, isomerism, bonding theories including valence bond, crystal and ligand field and molecular orbital approximations, electronic spectra and magnetic properties, coordination equilibria, ligand substitution processes.
